Aurora Bathing Cooperative

Aurora Bathing Coop (ABC) is a new project for making social bathing part of everyday life in the bay area. Our goal is to build a bathing site with a top-notch sauna and showers in every neighborhood in the East Bay. Bathing should be - Easy for working class people Cheap and in your neighborhood - Humanizing and life-affirming Beautiful and meditative. Designed for the safety and comfort of trans and queer people. - Social and fun For intimate conversation and new connections Why? Bathing is good for the body and soul. In a world that alienates us from our physical bodies through stress, work, and body shame, a bathhouse is a place to just be. ABC is a also project for reweaving the social fabric. A place where conversation flows easily between old friends and new ones. How? An hour session will cost about $3.5 per use. Members will also be responsible for cleaning the sauna roughly once every 100 uses, and occasionally helping to onboard new members. Doing maintenance ourselves as members rather than hiring full-time staff helps keep costs low and creates a feeling of ownership. Decisions will be made democratically by membership. What's next?
